The VMA is composed of magistrates, chief magistrates, and regional supervisors from the 32 judicial districts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and eight magisterial regions.

All current and retired/former magistrates and chief magistrates are eligible to join the VMA. Honorary membership is available to the public via nomination of a dues paying VMA member.
